Ludwig Cancer Research is an international collaborative network of acclaimed scientists that has pioneered cancer research and landmark discovery for more than 40 years. Ludwig combines basic science with the ability to translate its discoveries and conduct clinical trials to accelerate the development of new cancer diagnostics and therapies. Since 1971, Ludwig has invested nearly $2.7 billion in life-changing science through the not-for-profit Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research and the six U.S.-based Ludwig Centers.

Scientists at the Oxford Branch of the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research focus on a variety of subjects of importance to cancer research. These range from intracellular signaling, genomics and epigenetics to tumor immunology, oxygen sensing and angiogenesis. With stable core funding from Ludwig Cancer Research and access to state-of-the-art facilities in the renowned academic environment of the University of Oxford at the Old Road Research Campus, our PIs have both the opportunity and means to pursue groundbreaking basic and translational scientific research.

Applications are invited by the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research, Oxford, for two Senior Group Leaders in cancer research with expertise in infection, inflammation or epigenetics. We are seeking established leaders with a proven track record of scientific breakthroughs in their field.

Applicants must hold a PhD/DPhil in a relevant area, have an international reputation in the field and a strong portfolio of research publications.

With generous core funding from the Ludwig Institute and external grants, the successful applicant will lead an effective research group that focuses on the development of a cancer research program, with a view to translating findings to benefit patients. Ludwig Cancer Research engages leading scientists and clinicians to investigate the challenges of cancer from the evaluation of risk though to treatment. Ludwig research groups have diverse but overlapping interests, enabling the effective sharing of ideas and technologies.

The Ludwig Oxford Branch is based at the Old Road Campus, the largest campus of the University of Oxford’s Medical Sciences Division. The campus houses more than 2000 scientists exploiting the unique collaboration opportunities offered by the biomedical research institutes on campus and the adjacent hospitals.
