I am a physician-scientist with special interest in tumor immunology. I was initially trained as a physician specializing in internal medicine with a focus on clinical hematology.
After my clinical training I was interested in laboratory research, and I joined Thierry Boon's group at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research in Brussels. I first studied tumor antigens and associated immune responses in hematological malignancies. I later joined the clinical research team, which was developing phase 1 and 2 clinical vaccine trials in melanoma and other types of cancer. The biggest part of my career has been devoted to setting up and running clinical immunotherapy trials. I also have developed a laboratory research project aimed at characterizing the immune and inflammatory reactions that take place in human melanoma metastases.
