Among the many pleasures of publishing this magazine, two stand out, and both have to do with the people behind the science we share.
One is the general tour of cancer research we get as we prepare, with the gracious assistance of Ludwig scientists, the research briefs at the core of this publication. The other is the stories we occasionally get to tell about the scientists themselves. Not only about their lives, accomplishments and scientific vision, but also those moments when a striking result or arresting image brings the abstractions of cellular and molecular biology vividly to life.
These pleasures are in abundant evidence in this issue of the Ludwig Link. Check out our interviews with three newly appointed Ludwig Clinical Scholars—one affiliated with Ludwig Princeton and two at Ludwig Lausanne—in which they tell us a little about their lives, careers and scientific interests. Join us in welcoming them aboard. Or see our second installment of the Image gallery, a small collection of striking images, along with a little note about each, shared with us by researchers across the Ludwig community.
Along the way to those features, you’ll get your usual sampling of Ludwig news, including recent awards and honors earned by colleagues, the first publication out of Ludwig Oxford’s MPN Program and a Cancer Grand Challenges award issued to a team that includes two Ludwig leaders. Our research briefs cover early clinical trials examining new strategies and technologies for immunotherapy—harnessing monocyte-derived macrophages for drug delivery; using low-dose radiotherapy to turn cold tumors hot—and a rich assortment of applied science and fundamental discoveries touching on subjects ranging from CAR-T cell design to metabolomics to tumor biogeography.
Welcome to the fall 2026 issue of Ludwig Link!
Sincerely,
Unmesh Kher
