Our founder, Daniel K. Ludwig, made it abundantly clear that he wanted the cancer research supported by his legacy to be translated, whenever possible, into clinical interventions. In keeping with that vision, on July 1 the Institute appointed three accomplished physician-researchers as Ludwig Clinical Scholars: Bernhard Gentner and Caroline Arber of Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV) and the University of Lausanne, who join Ludwig Lausanne; and Christian Hinrichs of the Rutgers Cancer Institute, who joins Ludwig Princeton.

“These appointments reflect the Institute’s longstanding commitment to bringing exceptional clinical insight together with the basic and translational science conducted at our Branches,” said Ludwig Institute Deputy Scientific Director and Communications Director Pat Morin. “Bernhard, Caroline and Christian are outstanding physician-scientists whose expertise will strengthen those connections and help turn discoveries made in our laboratories into new cancer therapies.”

To welcome them on board, the Link recently caught up with each to learn a little more about their lives, careers and avocational pursuits. Here are some excerpts from those conversations.
