New regulators of blood vessel growth

Ludwig scientists working in Sarah De Val’s group have discovered that MEF2 transcription factors are crucial regulators of sprouting angiogenesis – the process by which new blood vessels form from existing ones. Their Genes and Development paper shows that MEF2 factors control transcription downstream of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) signalling. VEGF signalling is often targeted in anti-angiogenic cancer therapy.
